there are so many people to love in my life.

i have loved 2011. i look back and can't even believe all that i have been blessed with this year and always. i have had some pretty amazing experiences with family and have loved making new friends. i have learned a lot this year. i'm going to share a snipet from my journal:

My heart is so full. I am so blessed and so grateful that the Lord humbles us and gives us chances to become something great. I look forward to this new year with much anticipation. I have hopes and dreams of a better version of myself. I look back on 2010 and am not that impressed with my progression. I have much room to grow, and I am excited.

i still have a lot to keep working on, and that is okay.

but overall, it has been a wonderful year.

2012, i am ready for you.

this is the time of year that i get really nostalgic. well..let's be honest, i always get nostalgic. but, there is something about halloween that brings back some pretty dang sweet childhood memories.
i remember this halloween.
i remember feeling adorable.
i remember abi as a baby, dressed up as a bumblebee i think. i adored her from the beginning.
i remember trick-or-treating with my pops and his fake plastic cheeks, i always thought they looked so real.
i remember the anticipation of wearing my costume to school and being in the drigg's halloween parade.
i remember coming home to a wooden cat with glazed doughnuts on the tail.
i remember going to the barker's house for chili and scones and just wishing we could get out and trick-or-treat.
i remember my mom's big halloweeen makeup box, the smell of it.
i remember dave and joe going to halloween parties instead of trick or treating and thinking that was so crazy.
i remember going to haunted houses and just crying my eyes out because i was so scared.
yes, halloween is a great time and i am so grateful for the memories my parents and family created with me.
can't wait to create fun halloween memories with my little ones someday.
life is sweet.

no, they aren't engaged (yet :). One of my best friends, sarah asked if i would take some pictures of her and her man, mike. i was happy to oblige. taking pictures of them seriously made me so happy. so happy to see my friend glowing. so happy to see young love. so happy to spend time with them and see how great they are together. sarah is someone that has always been there for me and she has gone through so much in her young life. i love to see her shine. i'm so grateful for good friends. i'm also grateful for hobbies that make life so lovely.

This has been a lifelong struggle for my educational career. I know that this semester I will accomplish my goal of passing my math class. I need to. There is simply no other option. AND..I am not going to complain and tell the whole world about how much I hate it. I've decided that I need to be grateful for this opportunity I have been given to learn, stretch myself and become better at something I am definitely lacking in. I was reading in the Book of Mormon about Laman and Lemuel and all of their griping, and it helped me to realize that sometimes I like to be like them. It is so amazing that the scriptures can apply to us in all areas of our lives...like math. I know that the Lord will help me make this huge weakness a little bit more of a strength, as long as I put forth the effort that it takes. So...cross your fingers for me and maybe say a little prayer!

(sorry for the use of the 'D' word..it just captures my feelings too perfectly :)

today as i rode home from school on trax, i was listening to some classical music by vivaldi. i love how some music really speaks to the soul. my spirit was joyous as i was listening and i really felt like i was feasting off of vivaldi. heavenly father has provided us with so many ways of filling our lives with light and love. i know that music is one of the great ways He speaks to the soul and touches lives. today i am grateful for the beautiful things of this earth...but even more so, i'm grateful for the countless, beautiful people that add to the grandeur. i am grateful for talents shared, testimonies born, smiles offered, helping hands rendered, laughter evoked and the simple and yet profound impact each life has.

i didn't think so.

today was the day to pick up my new set of invisalign from the dentist.

mom, dad and i took a delicious trip to cafe rio afterwards.

i took out my sparkling new trays and wrapped them carefully in a napkin.

i placed them in my dad's pocket because i was wearing a skirt without any.

enjoyed a delicious meal.

came home only to discover that my dad didn't know what I had put in his pocket.

thrown away.

shoot.

work awaiting me in 15 minutes.

what to do?

dumpster dive.

never did i think i could see cafe rio in so many different shapes and sizes.

panic.

i can't be late to work.

rummaging through garbage, tears falling down. earnest prayers.

how can i possibly find two clear trays?

after about 20 minutes of searching

i found the top tray. filled with grains of rice and who knows what.

excitement.

right before my mom comes to help with the rummaging...and i find my bottom tray.

victory.

never again do i plan to go dumpster diving.

when i started kindergarten, i would come home after school and dad would make me a delicious batch of top ramen and say, "now this is the best ramen i've made." then i would enjoy an episode of madeline. he even took me on a "date" to see the madeline movie that came out. i'll never forget that.
ever since then, i have been dreaming of visiting paris, france.now that i'm learning about art history, my desire has increased. i know the french can be mean, and it can be dirty there..two things i hate..but i just want to go! not only do i want to visit, i want to feel like i live there. i can just imagine myself trapsing the streets of paris, sitting down at a cafe to enjoy a croisant. i met a guy last semester that served his mission in paris, and i was just THAT much more attacted to him when he told me that...oh and when he spoke french, i could barely handle it. even when i look up pictures of the ifle tower, my heart beats a little faster. there is just something about a childhood dream that i can't let go of.
one day, i will be there.

this is a hard post for me because i'm not a very crazy person.
i tried it once, and it didn't work for me.
but of all my friends, the one who was the best at getting me to do crazy stuff is mary campbell. she brought out a little rebellious side in me (granted, we were like 12-15 so my view of rebellion was and is a little skewed) wish i were a little bit more rebellious like my brothers, then maybe i'd have some fun stories to share...but i guess crazy things just happen to me involuntarily.

1. i hold onto things that i don't need or rarely use.
2. i sometimes eat just because it's a routine and i don't stop to think if i'm seriously hungry.
3. i have wasted SO MUCH time on facebook throughout the years.
4. sometimes i judge people.
5. sometimes i think i'm better than others when i'm really not.
6. i'm not good at trying something new in fear that i'll embarass myself, i tend to be content with what i already know and am good at. (waterskiing, basketball, new board/card games,etc.)
7. i sweat a lot. (guess i can't help that one?)

some of these were painful to write down, but i decided i'd be honest with myself and with you.

day #3-someone you would switch lives with for a day and why it would definitely be this girl. i know this sounds a bit ridiculous, but she has been a big part of my life the past few years as i have been able to relate to some of her songs or just dance around to them with friends. i would love to see what it's like to be her on stage singing seeing all of these people obsess over you, or what it's like when she is just spending time with those she loves or writing songs. she is a class act if you ask me. i once had a dream that she came over to my house and we just instantly became best friends and took funny pictures together and i couldn't wait to post them on facebook and have everyone be soo jealous of me.

1. i am the happiest when i am serving others or spending time with family and friends.
2. i haven't had a short haircut since 8th grade.
3. i have never had a serious boyfriend.
4. i get very nostalgic with the changing of each season.
5. i enjoy traveling in big cities. I have been to Mexico City (2nd biggest city in the world) New York, San Francisco, and Chicago.
6. i find much satisfaction in cleaning (i just need to be motivated to do it!)
7. cooking is a lot of fun for me.
8. i love the smell of fresh cotton, roses, lavendar, rain on the pavement, fresh babies, and the mountains.
9. i love spending time with children.
10. i have always been pretty good at keeping a steady journal.

12. my favorite two months are October (lover of autumn) and February (birthday month)
13. I absolutely love taking photos. I also enjoy critiquing photos. My favorite kind of pictures to take and look at are of weddings, engagements, bridals, babies, children and families.
14. i dream about my wedding/marriage quite often.

lately i have been enjoying exerting myself and walking with three of my lovely sister in laws. we have been going on ten mile speed walks at 4 a.m. and it has been so much fun. i enjoy so much chatting with these ladies and soaking in their goodness. i am grateful that my brothers have all married such amazing women!

one of my all time favorite things is to recieve letters in the mail.
on the flip side...something i am SO awful at is...sending letters in the mail.
which is really quite sad because i have so many awesome friends on missions that i would love to write..its just a matter of me sending it to them.

never did i think i would have straight across bangs again. i remember growing up and dislking my bangs so much because it wasn't really up-to-date anymore in my book (the twins never had them...) once i grew them out i was sure it was for good. still a little iffy on them sometimes...but hey, every once in a while we surprise ourselves! who knows, maybe next i'll revert to the bob? please excuse the cheesy pictures.

my blog is titled, "rhythm of love" today because that just happens to be my favorite song right about now. this is a blog dedicated to a few favorites. since i am not quite as wealthy as oprah, i cannot share these things with everyone..but mind as well make a fun list!

i am currently reading "fire of the covenant" for the second time. i read it this time of year a few years ago, and it was too sad for me to bear so i had to sit it down. left unfinished, i decided to try again. i literally stand all amazed at the sacrifice these saints put forth. this book really brings pioneers to life for me, and i hold a special place for them in my heart. it humbles me. so much. i am so grateful for every faithful step they took. what an amazing legacy.

i love the environment of, "the cowboy grub." garth brooks, chris ladeux, taylor swift, and other favorite country artists are always playing in the background. my kind of place :)

i just had to throw this in. favorite song by dixie chicks, "cowboy take me away" i wouldn't mind being "taken away" on this :)

i love the people i work with.

we tend to have a lot of fun while working.

it feels so good to have a job! after being unemployed for so long, it is great to feel like i am productive. i have to admit, being unemployed was a great lesson to me on how important it is to work hard. it automatically gives me a self-esteem boost to know that i am being productive. now i know why the lord counsels us to refrain from idleness.

gracie bug brasher

when grace was just a little girl, i remember walking with her at carpenteria (family beach vacation) and someone stopped us and said, "what is your name?" she promptly responded, "gracie bug." i will always have a soft spot in my heart for this little girl. for some reason, it feels like i will always view her as a "little" girl, although she is growing up right before my eyes. i can hardly believe it. ever since grace was a baby, she was known as, gracie bug. last friday, dad, me, abi, carter, nate, and bug all went on a beautiful, autumn hike. poor grace was the victim. she got attacked by a bee once (which freaked out a lot of our hikers) and got stung by a bee towards the end of the hike. luckily, grace was a good sport about it, but she did vow to never go on that hike

again. gotta love family memories!
